PS3 Slim due this month?

Sony didn’t showcase a PS3 Slim at the recent E3 event, but the new PS3 Slim could soon be on retail shelves. An unofficial source claims that July is the month that the PS3 Slim will become available to retailers. A Taiwanese website claims that Sony has signed production contracts with both Foxxcon and Pentagon to produce the PS3 Slim. The first stock expected to be received this month.

For us UK residents, it’s more likely to become available later in August, if the reports are correct. The Taiwanese site also claims that in spring 2010, a next-gen console based on Sony’s motion controller will be released – if this is true, then upgrading to a PS3 Slim would be seemingly pointless with a 1 year life span.

The key question is weather the Taiwanese website’s reports are correct and why didn’t Sony showcase this at E3?
