What it is
Calx is a single-player, third-person action adventure from Italian studio True Colors and publisher Dear Villagers. It takes place on Syro, a colourful but corrupted planet filled with crystal formations, ancient machines and the remains of the Quoths civilisation. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday, 8 October 2026, but a second delay moved the current announced release date to Thursday, 21 January 2027. It is not out yet.

Story and setting
You play as the Seeker, exploring Syro to discover what the WARP did to the Quoths. Calx is deliberately light on conventional exposition: the ruins, machines, environmental details and scanning system are intended to reveal the planet’s history as you move through it. The developers have described the visual direction as inspired by visionary science-fiction art, including the work of Mœbius.
The world is divided into distinct areas with different moods. One of the confirmed locations is the Forest of Exai, a sacred woodland on Mount Hedphelym that once formed part of a pilgrimage route to the city of Drexciya. It also contains the Sacred FLOW Tree, a former centre of the mysterious RESET ritual. These details suggest that Syro’s history, rather than a conventional cast of quest-givers, will provide much of the narrative.
How it plays
Movement is the main way Calx opens up its world. The Seeker can double-jump, dash through the air, levitate and use a grappling hook to reach new areas. Syro is interconnected, with new abilities allowing you to return to previous locations and find routes that were inaccessible earlier. Environmental scanning helps with navigation, puzzles, enemy behaviour and fragments of lost lore.
Combat combines melee attacks with ranged fire from the AFX weapons. The developers have revealed four weapons: the versatile Norma, the heavy-hitting Ram, the fast Twin and the homing-projectile Yaza. Each changes how you approach fights, while well-timed dodges provide tactical advantages. Combat arenas are designed around movement as much as attacking, so positioning and mobility matter alongside weapon choice. Upgrades improve both combat and traversal, and the advertised length is around 10 to 15 hours.
Trailers and demo
The 19 February 2026 reveal trailer established the core premise: the Seeker crossing WARP-corrupted Syro, scanning the environment, platforming through ruins and fighting hostile creatures. It also confirmed the game for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox and Switch, with a free Steam demo available.
A gameplay trailer shown during the Future Games Show Spring Showcase on 12 March 2026 offered a clearer look at the rhythm between quiet exploration, environmental puzzles and combat. The 13 May 2026 gameplay trailer went into more detail on the movement system, showing double-jumps, aerial dashes, levitation, grappling, scanning and ranged attacks. The accompanying Steam demo contains the complete tutorial and an early section of the Canyon area, and takes roughly an hour to finish.
Platforms, editions and UK price
Calx is listed for PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Xbox’s official listing includes both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, although the developers have not separately explained whether the Xbox One version has different technical features. The current release announcement gives Thursday, 21 January 2027 as the date for Calx, but does not confirm that every platform will unlock at the same time.
There is no announced UK RRP, edition breakdown or physical release information. Steam and the console storefronts currently present the game as a coming-soon or wishlist product rather than a pre-order listing. The Steam demo is free, but that does not indicate the price of the finished game.
What we still don’t know
A UK PEGI rating has not been announced. Xbox carries an American ESRB Everyone 10+ rating with fantasy violence, but that is not a substitute for a UK classification. There is also no confirmed information about PlayStation Plus, Xbox Game Pass, launch-day subscription availability, the exact UK release time or retailer pre-orders.
The game is clearly presented as offline single-player, with no co-op or competitive mode announced. Unity is often listed in database and technical metadata, but the developer has not officially confirmed the engine. Until pricing, editions and platform-specific launch details appear, the sensible approach is to try the Steam demo rather than commit to a pre-order.
