Story and setting

Attack on Titan 3 retells the saga from the Scout Regiment’s earliest battles through to its dramatic conclusion. You play as a new, customisable protagonist who joins the established cast, including Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Levi, Hange, Reiner, Zeke and the other key figures listed by Koei Tecmo.

The campaign includes brand-new story developments and reworked versions of memorable scenes from the previous games. The Nine Titans make their first in-game appearance in the series, giving the later parts of the story a much broader combat focus. The game is based on the Attack on Titan manga and anime, so it is likely to contain major spoilers for the complete story.

How it plays

The core action remains focused on omni-directional mobility gear. You launch cables, swing through the environment and target Titans in fast, close-range attacks. Koei Tecmo says Titans have more varied movement, attacks and behaviours, making it more important to read their actions and react rather than simply repeat the same manoeuvre. Simple controls are also available for players who want a more accessible way to handle the movement system.

Outside the main story, Exterior Scouting Missions take you into large areas beyond the Walls. You can assemble a squad from Scout Regiment characters, make use of their different abilities, build supply bases, hunt Titans and expand humanity’s territory. Expeditions involve managing supplies such as ODM fuel and blades, maintaining squad morale and deciding whether to press further into danger or retreat. The publisher also describes the possibility of permanent injury and death during these missions. A Regimental HQ provides space to interact with characters, form friendships and discover additional stories.

Trailers and showcases

The first announcement arrived on 5 June 2026 with a reveal trailer and confirmation that the game would cover the complete Attack on Titan story. It established the new title, its four announced platforms, the return of ODM combat and the inclusion of the Nine Titans, but it offered little detailed gameplay.

A worldwide presentation on 1 July, followed by the UK-dated Gameplay Reveal Trailer on 2 July, showed the combat system in considerably more detail. It introduced the custom hero, squad-based encounters, Exterior Scouting Missions, supply-base construction, resource management and Casual Mode. The same presentation confirmed that MAPPA, the studio behind Attack on Titan: The Final Season, is producing a new opening animation under director Arifumi Imai. That animation will not be included at launch and is planned for a later update.

The 3 August release-date broadcast confirmed 10 December 2026, showed further gameplay and introduced the Digital Deluxe Edition and purchase bonuses. Koei Tecmo’s Tokyo Game Show programme in September also listed a playable console demo and a stage covering console gameplay, life inside the Walls and interactions with comrades.

Platforms, editions and UK price

Attack on Titan 3 is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam. The Steam version is digital-only. Physical editions are planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, although the Switch 2 package is a Game-Key Card rather than a cartridge containing the full game.

On the UK PlayStation Store, the Standard Edition costs £54.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition costs £69.99. The Deluxe version includes the game, a Japanese-language digital art book, three character outfits, seven character customisation items, a 13-item original equipment pack and a starter item pack. It also includes up to 72 hours of early access, but Koei Tecmo says the Switch 2 version and its upgrade pack do not include the early-access key.

UK retailer listings put the physical Standard Edition at a £59.99 RRP and the SteelBook Launch Edition at £69.99. The Launch Edition contains the game, a SteelBook, a reversible ICONART print and bonus in-game DLC. The digital pre-order bonus is Wings of Freedom Earrings, while purchases made by 23 December 2026 qualify for a Wings of Freedom Hoodie.

What remains unconfirmed

Koei Tecmo has not published a UK PEGI number on the game’s UK site, although the North American release has an ESRB M rating for blood and gore, language, partial nudity and violence. PC system requirements, final performance targets, resolution details and any Game Pass or PS Plus inclusion have also not been announced.

The publisher has confirmed one-player offline play, so there is no announced online multiplayer or co-operative mode. It has also not identified the game’s engine publicly. The MAPPA opening animation is confirmed for a post-launch update, but its release date has not been given.
