Story and setting

The story continues from Garou: Mark of the Wolves and returns to South Town, the crime-ridden city at the heart of the Fatal Fury series. Terry Bogard once took Geese Howard’s son, Rock Howard, under his wing. Years later, Rock leaves Terry to search for the mother he believed was gone, while fighters and factions converge on South Town over the late Geese Howard’s legacy.

The confirmed cast combines returning figures such as Terry, Rock, Mai Shiranui, B. Jenet, Billy Kane, Hotaru, Gato and Kain R. Heinlein with newer characters including Preecha and Vox Reaper. The wider roster also includes crossover fighters such as Street Fighter’s Ken and Chun-Li, Cristiano Ronaldo, Salvatore Ganacci and Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star. Some of these are downloadable fighters rather than part of the base roster.

How it plays

This is a side-on versus fighter built around precise movement, timing and defensive reads. Arcade Style uses traditional technical inputs, while Smart Style simplifies special moves and combos through directional commands and single-button presses. That makes the game more approachable without removing the deeper control scheme for experienced players.

The headline addition is the REV System. Players can use REV Arts, REV Accel and REV Blows while the relevant conditions are met, but the REV Meter overheats if pushed too far. Returning Fatal Fury systems include Just Defense, Dodge Attacks, Braking, Feints and the Selective Potential Gear system. Certain stages also use Two-Lane Battles, allowing fighters to move between foreground and background lanes and extend combos across them.

Offline options include Arcade, Practice, Training, Missions, Tutorial and local Versus. Episodes of South Town is a single-player RPG mode in which each fighter travels across a map of South Town, earns experience, equips skills and tackles opponents with different rules. Colour Edit customises outfits and accessories, while the jukebox lets players build playlists from Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting music.

Trailers and showcases

SNK’s 6 August 2023 teaser confirmed the title and showed Terry and Rock in motion. The 19 March 2024 announcement trailer introduced the REV System, Arcade Style and Smart Style, and highlighted returning mechanics such as Just Defense, Dodge Attacks and S.P.G. It also announced the first playable public demo for EVO Japan 2024, held from 27 to 29 April.

The 8 June 2024 reveal added B. Jenet and newcomer Vox Reaper, while SNK’s later character trailers introduced fighters including Marco Rodrigues, Kevin Rian and Mai Shiranui. The Mai trailer, released on 21 August 2024, confirmed the original game’s 24 April 2025 launch date. Subsequent trailers expanded the downloadable roster, including Ken, Chun-Li, Kenshiro, Mr. Karate, Wolfgang Krauser and Season 3 fighters.

Nintendo’s 9 September 2026 Direct announced the Switch 2 version, showing the game running in handheld, tabletop and TV modes. It confirmed the 22 October digital release, Standard and Starter Editions, and Mai’s classic costume as a pre-order bonus. A related Tokyo Revengers teaser revealed Manjiro Sano and Ken Ryuguji as Season 3 guest fighters.

Platforms, editions and UK price

For this release, the confirmed platform is Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo UK lists the Standard Edition for digital pre-order and gives the release date as 22 October 2026. SNK has confirmed a Standard Edition containing the base game and a Starter Edition containing the base game plus Season Passes 1, 2 and 3. The announced Starter contents include Andy Bogard, Ken, Joe Higashi, Chun-Li, Mr. Big, Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary, Wolfgang Krauser, Mr. Karate, Kenshiro, Rick Strowd, Duck King, Kim Kaphwan, Manjiro Sano, Ken Ryuguji, Laocorn and one unidentified fighter.

SNK has confirmed digital prices of €19.99 for Standard and €29.99 for Starter, but Nintendo UK has not published pound prices. SNK has also announced a physical Starter Edition for 21 January 2027, although that date applies to Japan and there is no confirmed UK physical release or retailer pre-order. Digital pre-orders include a classic Mai Shiranui costume. The game is rated PEGI 12.

What we still don't know

SNK has not announced a UK RRP in pounds, a UK physical release date, participating UK retailers or the Switch 2 eShop release time. There is also no confirmed inclusion in Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus; the Xbox Free Play Days event from 27 to 30 August 2026 was only a temporary trial and did not make the game part of Game Pass.

The Switch 2 edition requires Nintendo Switch Online for online play. Its store listing confirms online support, rollback netcode and cross-platform play, but Nintendo’s 2–12 network-player figure should not be read as twelve fighters in one match. The final identity of Season 3’s unnamed fighter and the future availability of Mai’s costume as separate paid DLC also remain unconfirmed.
