Story and setting
The main story begins in 1449, in the prosperous Dagdan Empire. Its capital, Dagsion, hosts the Heroic Games, a tournament held in honour of Dagda the Great. The winner is promised one wish, drawing fighters from across the land, including four people with very different reasons for entering: Cai wants to free his imprisoned father, Dietrich is searching for a worthy battle, Queen Theodora is fighting for her kingdom and Leda seeks revenge for her father’s murder.
The wider story takes place five years later, in 1454, after the demon god Balor returns and threatens to destroy the Empire. With the four heroes missing, the goddess Fortuna uses her ability to travel through time to give the player a chance to change their fates. Sothis also returns, giving the game clear lore links to Fire Emblem: Three Houses and the continent of Dagda, although Fortune’s Weave tells a new story and does not require prior knowledge of Three Houses.
You can progress through the four hero stories in parallel, switching between them between major matches. Each protagonist has a different supporting cast and some route-specific activities, but their separate campaigns eventually converge on a shared final conflict.
How it plays
Battles use Fire Emblem’s familiar grid-based, turn-by-turn structure. Unit classes, weapon types, attack range, terrain and positioning all matter, while Combat Arts provide stronger or more specialised attacks at the cost of weapon durability. Magic, counterattacks and careful formation remain central to winning difficult encounters.
The new Blaze Arts are signature abilities tied to the four main heroes. They consume HP, making them a useful but risky way to break an enemy line, protect allies or alter the shape of a battle. Using Blaze Arts fills a Blaze Gauge; pushing it too far triggers Burst, ending the temporary bonus and reducing the hero’s maximum HP. Blessings earned from the gods provide another layer of customisation, adding temporary advantages and other effects.
Between matches, Dagsion acts as a substantial base. You can train at the Arena Plaza, watch rival battles to study opponents, buy equipment, take certification exams to change classes, recruit allies, share meals, build relationships and complete time-limited requests. The surrounding continent of Dagda is also explorable, with towns, roaming enemies, dungeons, materials and treasure. Dungeon encounters use a different style of battle in which allies can combine their attacks. Joy-Con 2 mouse controls are supported for battlefield movement and menu navigation.
Platforms, editions and UK price
Fortune’s Weave is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 and supports handheld, tabletop and TV play. Nintendo lists a 27.5GB download size, HDR output on compatible televisions and support for Nintendo Switch Online cloud saves. The game itself does not require Nintendo Switch Online because it has no online multiplayer.
The standard UK RRP is £58.99 for the digital version and £66.99 for the physical edition. The £92.99 Dagdan Collection includes the game, a SteelBook case, character art cards, a map of Dagda and an art book. It was available through UK retailers including Argos and Smyths, although prices and stock can change now that the game has launched. There is no Nintendo Switch version, and no PlayStation, Xbox or PC edition has been announced.
Launch update, performance and reception
Version 1.0.1 was released on 16 September, ahead of launch. It adds four bonus weapons from the wider Fire Emblem series: the Chosen Sword, Chosen Lance, Breidablik and Royal Sword. The update also fixes unspecified issues and is the only post-launch software update publicly documented as of 27 September 2026.
Digital Foundry’s technical analysis, reported by Nintendo Life, found a locked 30fps presentation with no reported drops. In docked mode, the game targets 1440p from a lower reconstructed base resolution, while handheld play targets 1080p from a lower base image. Load times are described as quick, although image quality and texture filtering are not as sharp as the best-looking Switch 2 releases.
The critical response has been strongly positive, though not unanimous. VGC awarded 5/5, praising the scale of the story, the four protagonists and the tactical combat. Nintendo Life gave it 8/10, calling the battles, side activities and sheer amount of content excellent while criticising the later pacing, overworld management and Clash Battles.
What remains unconfirmed
Nintendo has not announced paid DLC, an expansion pass, additional playable modes or further platforms. There is also no published UK eShop unlock time beyond the confirmed 17 September release date. For now, Fortune’s Weave is a complete single-player Switch 2 release with one documented launch update and no announced expansion roadmap.
Not yet confirmed
- No paid DLC or expansion pass has been announced as of 27 September 2026.
- No additional modes, platforms or future story content have been announced.
- Nintendo has not published an official UK eShop unlock time.
