Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition

Story and setting

Ghost of Yōtei takes place in 1603, more than 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima. Atsu returns to Ezo 16 years after her family was killed and begins hunting the Yōtei Six: the Snake, Oni, Kitsune, Spider, Dragon and Lord Saito. Her revenge mission takes her through grasslands, snowy ridges, wildflower fields and other rugged landscapes around Mount Yōtei.

The main story is standalone rather than a direct continuation of Jin Sakai’s journey. Atsu is a new protagonist, and the focus is on her trauma, revenge and eventual search for a different future. The Complete Edition’s Echoes of Sekigahara expansion adds a new area, the Ashoro Foothills, and moves between Atsu’s past during the Battle of Sekigahara and the present day, where she reluctantly joins forces with Nagato against the Vipers, a gang of poachers.

How it plays

This is a third-person, open-world action adventure built around exploration, melee combat, ranged weapons and stealth. Atsu can travel on foot or horseback, follow optional activities, meet allies and train with masters to learn new weapons. The combat system uses a broad arsenal rather than relying solely on Ghost of Tsushima’s stance system, with weapons and equipment supporting different approaches to a fight.

The original game also includes armour, charms, ranged attacks, stealth tools, duels, bounties and a substantial Photo Mode. New Game Plus carries over equipment, upgrades, cosmetics, resources and collectibles, while adding further armour sets, charms, upgrades and trophies. Ghost of Yōtei Legends is a separate supernatural co-op mode, with classes, two-player story missions, four-player Survival matches and a Raid added through later updates.

What the Complete Edition adds

The package contains the full Ghost of Yōtei campaign, Echoes of Sekigahara, the Most Wanted combat survival mode, an in-game mask, the Charm of Hokkyokusei, the Snake Armour, the Digital Deluxe Armour Dye, the Digital Deluxe Horse and Saddle, the Sword Kit, Traveller’s Maps early unlock and the Charm of Amaterasu.

Most Wanted is a single-player roguelike-style mode. You select bounties linked to members of the Yōtei Six, fight through escalating waves and minibosses, choose perks between encounters and build a stronger character for the final target. Four playable characters are available, including Atsu, Oyuki and Jin Sakai, who returns with his four signature stances. Progress also unlocks techniques, weapons, charms, characters and cosmetics usable in the main game.

A free patch for all Ghost of Yōtei owners adds Beauty of Yōtei, new Watanabe Mode tracks, an option to keep one armour set’s appearance while using another’s statistics and a high-contrast accessibility setting. Those updates are not exclusive to the Complete Edition.

Trailers and showcases

The 24 September 2024 announcement trailer introduced Atsu, Ezo and the 1603 setting, while confirming that this would be a new story rather than a continuation of Jin Sakai’s. The 23 April 2025 trailer, The Onryō’s List, revealed the Yōtei Six, Atsu’s family tragedy, several allies and weapons, and the mechanic that lets her glimpse parts of her past.

The 10 July 2025 State of Play gameplay deep dive showed nearly 20 minutes of exploration, combat, stealth, weapon variety, customisation and special presentation modes. The September 2025 launch trailer recapped the revenge story and open-world setting. On 12 February 2026, a State of Play trailer announced the release of Ghost of Yōtei Legends and outlined its classes and co-op structure. The 12 August 2026 Complete Edition trailer announced Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted, while the 3 September showcase revealed Jin as a playable Most Wanted character and gave the first substantial look at the expansion’s story and new Ashoro Foothills area.

UK release, editions and what remains unconfirmed

The Complete Edition costs £69.99 digitally on the UK PlayStation Store. Owners of Ghost of Yōtei can buy the Complete Edition Upgrade for £11.99. The digital version is already available to purchase, although Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted do not unlock until the 1 October patch. A physical PS5 version is confirmed for the same date, but Sony has not published a separate UK physical RRP or confirmed a specific retailer pre-order listing.

The game is rated PEGI 18. Online play is limited to Ghost of Yōtei Legends and requires PlayStation Plus; the main campaign and Most Wanted can be played alone. There is no announced PS4, Xbox, Switch or PC version, and Sony has not confirmed inclusion in the PS Plus Game Catalogue. The exact UK release time and the name of the game engine have not been announced.
