Story and setting

The Glade of Dreams is threatened by a shadowy villain spreading corruption across its realms. Rayman, Globox, Barbara, Grand Minimus and Murphy set out to restore peace, rescue hidden Teensies and confront a new threat from the underworld. Ubisoft has described Retold as an expansion of Rayman Legends’ world and lore rather than a straightforward visual remaster.

The adventure includes a mysterious sixth realm that was not in the 2013 game, along with new character encounters, narrative twists and fully voiced cinematics. It is the first time the Rayman characters have been fully voiced across the franchise. The story is still being kept fairly light on detail, so the identity of the villain and the full shape of the new realm remain among the game’s launch mysteries.

How it plays

Retold remains a side-scrolling action platformer. Rayman and his friends run, jump, glide and punch through colourful stages, collecting Lums, rescuing Teensies and dealing with enemies, traps and set-piece moments. The presentation is now built around the Snowdrop engine, with the camera able to tilt and bend the playground while the underlying platforming remains clear and fast.

A selection of familiar Rayman Legends levels returns, joined by four new musical stages in which movement is tied to the beat. Dragon rides provide another change of pace, while the Cave of Trials offers ongoing challenges for players who want something more demanding. The entire main adventure supports up to four players in local couch co-op. Kung Foot also returns as Kung Foot Evo, with larger arenas, ball-carrying, passing, power-ups and customisable rules designed around team-based matches.

Trailers and showcases

The 2 June 2026 State of Play reveal introduced the 3D presentation, the corrupted Glade of Dreams, the new villain, the sixth realm, dragon rides, fully voiced cinematics, musical stages and four-player couch co-op. It also confirmed that Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition would be included with every edition.

Ubisoft’s 19 June trailer for Japan emphasised the new world, rhythm stages, dragon sequences, story focus and offline multiplayer for up to four players. On 6 July, a developer update detailed Kung Foot Evo, including passing, larger vertical arenas, power-ups and match customisation. At gamescom 2026, visitors could play the opening level, a dragon ride and a musical stage, with live Rayman gameplay shown on 27 and 28 August.

The latest Game Overview trailer, released on 22 September, brought the new cinematic storytelling, sixth realm, dragon rides and reworked content together in one extended look. It also reinforced that the co-op advertised by Ubisoft is local rather than remote online multiplayer.

Platforms, editions and UK price

Rayman Legends Retold launches in the UK on 3 December 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store. The earlier 1 October date shown on some launch listings was superseded after Ubisoft delayed the game on 14 September, despite confirming that it had gone gold. Ubisoft said the extra time was being used to give the final details more care.

UK listings show the Standard Edition at £34.99 and the Deluxe Edition at £44.99. Both include the base game and Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition, which adds 4K visuals, new collectibles, rewards, accessibility options and quality-of-life improvements. The digital-only Deluxe Edition adds the Retro Pack, with four character costumes, plus an in-game Art Gallery. Pre-ordering either edition includes the Hoodlum Havoc Pack, containing two Rayman 3-inspired costumes for Rayman and Globox.

Ubisoft has also confirmed a retail-only Launch Edition with a printed Glade of Dreams map, three lithographs and a slipcase. UK retailers including Currys and The Game Collection have listed physical pre-orders, although the separate UK price and exact packaging details for that Launch Edition are not consistently displayed.

Should you pre-order?

The Standard Edition is the more obvious choice if you want the new game and Origins: Enhanced Edition without paying extra for cosmetic material. The Deluxe Edition is aimed at collectors of Rayman artwork and costumes, while the physical Launch Edition adds the most tangible extras.

There is no review consensus yet because the game is unreleased, and the lack of online co-op matters if your preferred way to play is with friends in different homes. For local multiplayer, however, Retold is shaping up as a two-game package with a large amount of platforming content. Waiting is sensible if you want to see final performance, the complete level list and confirmation of any connected challenge features before spending money.
