What it is
Silver Pines is an unreleased survival-horror metroidvania from Wych Elm and Team17. It combines side-scrolling exploration with locked routes, puzzles, limited supplies and dangerous encounters in a strange small town in America. The game is due to launch in the UK on Thursday, 8 October 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
This is a single-player game with no online multiplayer. Its presentation sits between a 2D side-scroller and a 3D world, using layered environments, rotoscoped character animation and a deliberately restrained survival-horror approach rather than constant action.

Story and setting
You play as Red Walker, a private investigator who arrives in the half-abandoned town of Silver Pines while searching for Eddie Velvet, a musician who has disappeared. The investigation begins as a missing-person case, but the town’s buried history soon pulls Walker into something more disturbing and surreal.
The available material describes Silver Pines as a small American town filled with suspicious characters, hidden clues and a dark past. More detailed game information places the opening in an empty diner and describes Walker as having no memory of what happened before. The story is presented through in-world discoveries and fully voiced graphic-novel-style cutscenes, with the town’s strange inhabitants helping to shape the mystery.
How it plays
Silver Pines is built around classic survival-horror priorities. You can fight the creatures in the town or try to avoid them, but ammunition, medicine and other useful items are limited. Inventory space is restricted, so searching rooms and deciding what to carry are intended to matter as much as aiming a weapon. The confirmed feature set includes melee and ranged combat, varied enemies and large bosses.
Exploration follows a metroidvania structure. Locked doors, concealed routes and blocked passages gradually become manageable as Walker finds better tools and weapons, opening more of the town. Puzzles are part of the main progression, while optional clues, resources and secrets reward careful backtracking. The visual style uses hand-painted and photographed textures, 2D sprites arranged in a 3D simulation, and rotoscoped animation to give movement a grounded, slightly uncanny quality.
The game is not a conventional platformer. Its side-on perspective is used to create depth between foreground and background areas, with the emphasis on investigation, positioning and atmosphere rather than precision jumping.
Trailers and showcases
The announcement trailer, released on 23 October 2025, introduced Red Walker’s search for Eddie Velvet and established the game’s abandoned-town setting. It also confirmed the core loop: explore, solve puzzles, manage scarce resources and decide whether to confront or avoid the horrors blocking the way.
A PlayStation gameplay trailer appeared on 12 March 2026 during the Future Games Show Spring Showcase. It gave a clearer look at the side-scrolling presentation, layered environments, combat, exploration and the pressure created by limited ammunition and inventory space. The release-date and demo trailer followed on 1 June 2026, confirming the 8 October launch and showing more of Walker’s investigation, the town’s creatures and the unsettling mystery surrounding Eddie Velvet. A separate Horror Game Awards trailer from the same day repeated the launch and demo announcement.
On 16 July 2026, a Convergence Showcase developer video featured Wych Elm co-founder Linus Larsson discussing the opening and first few hours. The video explained how the story starts as a traditional detective case before becoming increasingly dreamlike. It was a developer-led overview rather than a new release announcement.
Platforms, editions and UK price
The current publisher listing confirms PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Team17’s announcement also names the Epic Games Store for PC. The Steam version is marked Steam Deck Verified, and the Xbox listing confirms single-player support, Xbox Play Anywhere and Series X|S optimisation.
The standard edition is priced at £21.99 in the UK on Steam and consoles. A Deluxe Edition costs £27.99 and includes the game, an artbook and the official soundtrack. Steam pre-orders are scheduled to open on Thursday, 1 October 2026, one week before launch. A free Steam demo is available before release and is scheduled to remain available until 8 October. No physical UK edition or retailer pre-order has been announced.
What remains unconfirmed
Team17 has not announced an exact UK launch time for the console versions, nor has it confirmed a physical release, a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass launch inclusion, or any post-launch content. A Switch 2 version appears in some third-party listings, but it is not included in the publisher’s current Silver Pines platform listing, so it should not be treated as confirmed.
The developers have also not finalised or announced features such as New Game Plus, additional difficulty options, speed-running modes or a post-game campaign. The confirmed release information covers the main single-player game and the two digital editions described above.
