Story and setting

Caroline Walker wants a quiet life with her younger sister, Anna, but Anna begins suffering visions of violence and death. Her disturbing drawings start becoming reality, while coughing blood, blackened eyes and periods of unconsciousness suggest something beyond conventional medicine. Caroline travels to Villa Hess, a remote town in the mountains of southern Chile, where a mysterious clinic and its seemingly welcoming staff conceal a far darker purpose.

The story involves Mother Lucia and her secretive sisterhood, a cult-like group with ties to Caroline and Anna’s grandfather, Noah Morrisette. Caroline also encounters Joseph, a warlock searching for an ancient book of the dead, and Miguel, an ex-soldier on a covert US government mission. The setting expands beyond the convent to locations including a derelict shopping mall, a cemetery, an abandoned school and the Wildberger and Hess Fish Processing Plant.

How it plays

Tormented Souls II uses a third-person, fixed-camera presentation inspired by 1990s survival horror. Exploration is built around searching rooms, examining objects, managing limited resources and connecting items with parts of the environment to solve puzzles. Players can use classic tank controls and limited saves, or select Assisted mode for a less demanding experience.

Combat is based on improvised weapons rather than a conventional military arsenal. Confirmed weapons include the pneumatic nailer, Automatic Nailer, chainsaw, triple-barrelled Hand Cannon and other upgradeable tools. A quick-select system lets Caroline change weapons during fights, while enemies include tortured fanatics, quadrupedal bladed creatures, barnacle-covered horrors and heavily armoured bosses.

Caroline’s supernatural abilities are central to progression. She can move between reality and the nightmarish Other Side, revisit memories recorded on videotapes and alter the past in ways that change the present. The Other Side contains its own threats and routes, making the reality-shifting mechanic part of both the puzzle design and the story.

Trailers and showcases

The 23 August 2023 Future Games Show reveal introduced the sequel, Caroline’s search for Anna and a remote Southern American settlement originally called Puerto Miller. It showed the intended mix of cult horror, improvised weapons and environmental puzzles, although the finished game uses Villa Hess as its setting.

On 6 June 2025, the first playable Steam demo launched, covering roughly the opening 60 minutes in a sinister convent. The Latin American Games Showcase on 7 June followed with a story teaser introducing major characters, new locations and Caroline’s redesigned appearance. On 20 August 2025, the Future Games Show at Gamescom presented the A New Nightmare gameplay trailer, confirmed the original 23 October 2025 launch date and revealed the Other Side bosses Iron Maiden and the Harvester.

The 23 October 2025 launch trailer showed more of Villa Hess, the shopping mall, cemetery, school and fish-processing plant, alongside new enemies, weapons and Caroline’s uneasy alliances. PQube’s 28 July 2026 Switch 2 announcement trailer confirmed the Nintendo version, showed Switch 2 gameplay and set its UK release for 15 October 2026.

Platforms, editions and UK price

For UK readers, the Switch 2 version launches on 15 October 2026 in handheld, tabletop and TV modes, with HDR support on compatible televisions. The game is also available on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG.com, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, where it released in October 2025. The Switch 2 edition is single-player and does not require online multiplayer.

The standard UK digital price is listed at £24.99, with the eShop currently showing a 15 per cent pre-order reduction to £21.24 at the time of checking. PQube’s physical Switch 2 edition is available to pre-order, with UK retailers listing it at roughly £34.95 to £34.99. There is no confirmed Switch 2 Deluxe Edition. Existing PC and console versions have a Digital Deluxe Edition containing cosmetic Caroline outfits, but PQube has not confirmed that package for Nintendo’s platform.

What we still do not know

PQube has not announced a UK release time for the Switch 2 version, so there is no confirmed midnight or morning launch schedule. It has also not confirmed the Switch 2 resolution, frame-rate target, technical upgrades or whether the version will launch with all post-release content from the other platforms.

The existing PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions received a free New Game Plus update in February 2026, adding tougher enemy placement, extra weapons, collectables, a special ending and a bonus costume. Its inclusion in the Switch 2 release remains unconfirmed. No original Nintendo Switch version has been announced.

Should you pre-order?

There is a clear case for pre-ordering if you want a portable take on traditional fixed-camera survival horror and already know that the first Tormented Souls suits your tastes. The core format is well defined, the price is modest digitally and the physical edition is readily available to reserve.

Waiting is more sensible if Switch 2 performance matters to you or if you want confirmation about New Game Plus, the Deluxe Edition and launch-day technical polish. Those details have not been confirmed for this version, and the lack of an announced UK launch time means the safest option is to wait for final information or early reviews.
