Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition Review

Taking the basic concept for the port of Diablo III for the Xbox 360 and upping the ante in a very major way (on multiple fronts), Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil edition for the Xbox One / PS4 seems like it’s too good to be true.  However, upon further inspection you discover that indeed this is a nice bundled package which takes the core D3 experience, adds some perks, increases the visual appeal and ties everything together with some new content.   In short, if you’ve yet to bash your way through Diablo III, definitely spring for this version as it includes all the goodies.

What’s in the Ultimate Evil edition package?

  • The main game, “Diablo III”
  • The add on, “Reaper of Souls”
  • A number of other additions / alterations

As you might have no doubt already guessed, the release of this package is basically an attempt to promote the recently unveiled add-on, “Reaper of Souls”, which expands the main storyline with new elements.   Moreover, it also adds a number of new perks and elements which many feel greatly enhance the basic concept and layout of the game.  For instance, you have “Adventure Mode”, which is pretty much just an attempt to create a more righteous open world approach to the game.   In it players are free to explore the totality of the game’s layout, from region to region, exploring Nephalem Rifts all along with the way as they are given the option to fulfill bounty contracts.  Add to this a new character class (Crusader) and you have just enough new content and features to pique the interests of those who might have already conquered the game many times over.

Additionally, we find that the game has been slightly improved from a visual / graphical perspective here as well.  In other words, it seems a bit more crisp, detailed and stable when running on an Xbox One vs. an older console.  Many might not notice much of a difference, but veteran fans of the series certainly will because there’s virtually no slow down or lagging, even when there’s an amazing number of enemies all populating the screen at the same time.

Reaper of Souls

For those who might be wondering, Reaper of Souls is more or less delivering the same exact sort of storytelling found elsewhere, however it does seem to be a bit darker overall.  Nevertheless, anyone who found the main campaign in D3 to be entertaining will certainly have a ball with this add-on.
